Britney Spears 'mentally incapable' of giving evidence in court

Court papers show Britney Spears' ex-manager Sam Lutfi wants the pop princess to give evidence in his defamation lawsuit — but her conservators claim she's 'mentally incapable'. Britney was put under a conservatorship after a downward spiral in 2008 that saw her hospitalised. She has since rebuilt her career under new manager and boyfriend Jason Trawick. But ex-manager, Sam Lutfi, claims he has been unfairly slammed in the media and is suing Britney's mum, Lynne, for defamation. Spears' parents claimed that Lutfi used to drug Spears and harassed her post-breakdown. In the court papers Lutfi says he wants his one-time client to testify in the court case but her conservators are claiming that she is "mentally incapable" of doing so. Lutfi says that claim is false. A declaration by UCLA professor of psychiatry Joshua E Pretsky, an expert witness who analysed a Britney interview with Ryan Seacrest, claims she is capable of giving evidence. The document states: "She responds logically and coherently to questions, evidencing logical thinking and mental competency. In my opinion, there is good cause to conduct an Independent Medical Examination to investigate the Conservators' claim that Ms Spears is not mentally capable of testifying, and the claim that she was not mentally competent to enter into a binding contract."
